Ferns is not where the jet set hang out at lunchtimes (is there a jet set in Exeter?) but it is where serious shoppers of a more mature nature might stop to rest their feet and refuel. Ferns is an old fashioned (by which I mean traditional) coffee shop situated in the equally old fashioned Guildhall shopping centre (next to the top floor of the now sadly departed Woolworths) and is favoured by those who do their shopping in that area of town avoiding the new fangled Princesshay. Nothing wrong with that.
Ferns is usually busy, which is a good measure of their popularity merited by their food. Sandwiches and baked potatoes are the main fare, with plenty of other 'home made' style dishes, salads, quiche. -
